You can never reproduce the wheel. What is the idea of creating another social media platform, an e-commerce site? How you can out-beat Amazon, Facebook, and Google? I mean it’s all there, whatever we need online they already have a champion to serve us, as an internet user. You don’t need anything else, these apps are already taking enough of our time. I don’t think the future start-up is going to be another B2C or C2C platform, but B2B? Probably yes.
I am not an economist, business analyst, or researcher. As a normal citizen and a consumer, I observe that it is a fact, that we are already bored with our lives because whatever we need is already there for us. We already have enough of things and there is a thirst for a new invention that changes our life forever. The only thing that motivated us to keep our life going and have a purpose of living is very simple: a house, a car a kid, and whatever a kid needs. Yes, you have plenty of hobbies to make you happy and enjoy as well. For me, at this moment, it could be anything related to bicycling, tennis racquet, diet, fitness, camera, and so on. I mean we could feel happy when we travel as well, you know, to see something new, to change our view of life, to make our life more special by having surprising elements. Speaking about the surprise element, I am speaking about the lottery, like elderly people are kind of bored so they decide to get a lottery ticket, just for fun you know, they don’t bet their whole life on it for sure, unlike young people, we invest money in certain kind of stuff like stocks and bitcoins, that many of us do use margin and expect some lucks and getting huge money, again: to buy house, car, and fun.
I have been speaking about this many times, to be happy it’s all about preparing for good conditions and taking care of all aspects of life that make you fulfilled. I am speaking about a healthy body, good relationships, making good earnings, helping people feel good about themselves, and so on. These are simple rules, and once you have all of that at some point then you’re just good to go to be happy.
The title of this article speaks about the Temu app, another e-commerce site in Canada. I am not sure why they are starting with this, what is the good thing about this, anyone? How’s different and better than Amazon Prime? I don’t know. But for sure it has been advertised a lot online. The orange color looks like an Alibaba clone. I mean I see Alibaba being advertised a lot in the United States back when I was in the US for study in 2012. And until 2016 I started realizing it’s such a huge company, a big tech company in China. I mean Temu could be something like that, it could be one of the great companies with huge advantages compared to Amazon and probably will earn some stake in the market. But what are the advantages? I will wait to hear something about it in the future. In Vietnam, the only growing e-commerce site right now is Shopee and Tiktok Shop. Other known e-commerce sites like Tiki, and Sendo might already be dead. Lazada might still have a place for it, but it’s dying also. Uber is a huge guy in North America, but you see, even a big guy like Uber has given up in the Vietnam / Southeast Asia market. I’m not sure how Grab / Shopee had made a deal with that guy to take that guy out of the playground.
Speaking about a new invention that can change human life forever. A few years ago, big words like Cloud, Big Data, Blockchain, 5G, and AI were all we heard about, and it’s already being applied in our daily lives. We are having a better deal, cheaper products, and more fun experiences online (like TikTok is a big example), life is much more convenient now, we can easily find what we are looking for, on e-commerce or search engines. For the year 2024 and so on, I put a bet on the growth of all the big words above still, but also with the introduction of Electric Vehicle (EV) and Virtual Reality (VR), these are also a game changer. We will see how everyone gets an electric car themself, and also wears VR glasses to the airplane, to a coffee shop, to a park, and so on. We will see. But again, I am also curious about how the economic system will allocate people (resources) to correct places, that produce more and make good stuff like that. I mean there are lots of patents/research/findings and inventions behind a single product that is as complex as the Apple glasses and the Tesla EV, these guys are definitely asking for a good amount of great/talented resources. As an engineer, I wish that I could join such a great engineering team like theirs.
