Diary #31 – The laptop charger

Actually, I only need one single charger for both my MacBook and my phone. It only takes 30 wattages or maybe 60 for optimized charging time, and it would serve both my energy demands for the phone and Macbook. For an internet connection, I can borrow the wifi from the coffee shop. The place I’m sitting here right now is the Starbucks, it’s on the other side of the building where I would have my haircut, I was coming here early because I plan to go out today for gym and a haircut, the only timeslot I can schedule with my favorite barber (his name is Karik btw), is 8.30 PM. So I have to wait for around 2 hours. The problem I’m having right now is that my MacBook is running out of battery. It’s draining quite fast and I might have to take a nap later for around 30 minutes because my laptop will be out of power. It has only 33% left at the very current moment of writing, I had to turn off all the programs except the current tab of browser where I’m writing my blog. I will see how much the battery will last. And now my curiousity raising, how much battery I will gain extra if I use macbook pro 16 inch. Do you guys think it’s better to get a bigger laptop just for the battery? I know that the screen real estate is quite a huge extra as well if I want to do multi-tasking, instead of swapping back and forward between screen, I can just split the screen to half or triple or quadruple, the larger screen of Macbook pro 16 inch would definitely make the frontend programming a lot easier. Imagine you can coding, browsing and viewing your UI changes in the single screne. It would be amazing. But the point that, would I dare to sacrifice portability? If I plan to use the laptop for at least 2 to 3 years to come, then a big size machine with greater cooling like the 16inch pro is definitely a way to go. But I just feel like everytime a new machine is released from Apple, it always revolutionized, I like the improved design for better repairability and better cooling and all kind of hidden optimization we have in every releases, and of course the improvement of processing power is a big plus. The thing I worry about is the cost as well. I’m kind of feeling like to save money rather than spending it on stuff that I don’t use it enough. I mean literrally the current 16 GB base pro model of M2 chip I’m having right now is already capable of doing all the stuff I need: like coding, browsing, gaming, you know, content consumption. The only thing I haven’t try yet, which I really want to do in near future is video editing, I mean it would be a nice skill to have, if it’s not taking too much time to learn I would do it on my machine. I was thinking about getting the top-notch macbook, like 64GB ram and Pro Max chip (16 CPU cores, 40 GPU cores) something like that, with 2 TB of storage, 3 years Apple Care and Final Cut Pro. The total cost is somewhat around 7000 CAD plus, which is around 132M VND at the time of writing. To be frank, I feel like this is a crazy amount of money, if I invest this in stock market I would get a net income of 3 percent for sure (like if I put it in Vanguard ETFs) . So I have to think, think and think over and over. I have been saving money like crazy, living extremely humble life: one bike, no car, no dating, no drinking, no dining-out, no travel, home cook, no shopping, no new clothes or equipments, and even no social life. You see, it’s an extreme level of humble, I could cut my living expense even more by stop taking supplements and stop going to gym, or even reduce my protein intake (like eating only rice and beans). But you see, I must find a sustainable way of living that still make myself sufficient emotionally and physically. Like I still need a healthy lifestyle. I’m good with staying at home 24 hours for 31 days straight but not for the whole year for sure, I still need to biking around, having some coffee here and there and conversations at the gym. I might want to have more connection with people here but to be frank, I used to have friends but then I realize that it’s quite awkward if we continue to hang out without any purpose. You see, everyone I meet they always have a purpose: build income, raise family, things like that. What kind of stuff like having fun being around with folks with the same hobbies? I have never seen that anymore, my hobbies right now is being alone and doing my studies: related to stocks, health, programming and possibly some scientific stuff like biology or astronomy or history and possibly some politics. I like to watch girls dancing in tiktok too, but to be frank they don’t occupy too much of my time, I still interest in female for sure since I realize that I must interested in them in order to start a family and raise kids. That’s every human duties and I believe that I must do that duty at some point in my life. But for now, I try to save as much money as possible, basically, build a modest life style that’s sustainable.

Therefore, I think that I won’t need to upgrade my laptop, although I really want to do that since my current laptop is sometime buggy due to lack of memory and disk storages (I only have 16 GB of memory and 500 GB of SSD storage), so I believe that an upgrade my make my workflow a bit more comfortable. But to be frank, if I do single task at one time rather than multi tasking, then it’s definitely easy: like try to keep number of browser tabs under 10, and try to have just a few programs (like under 5) that running at the same time, then it would have no problem at all, my workflow would never be interrupted if I know to manage the resources efficiently. I think the most concerning thing is the battery life, it’s starting to age rather quickly after a year of using, I’m speaking for both my phone and my laptop. I have to charge it quite often, like every 8 hours or so to keep it running. So if a technology revolution I want to see in future, is not really about the speed of the machine or the data transfering speed (through wifi, 5G or 6G or fiber optics), it’s more about the battery, about the power. If we able to solve the problem of energy and human is getting extremely close to utopia. You see, everything is energy based. From human body, to a truck to any kind of machine we are using everyday: the laptop, the lamp, the factory machineries… are all running with a power source. So if we figure out a way to transfer unlimited energy to our devices, then it would makes everything a lot cheaper, or I mean, more efficient. Like right now I’m sitting here in the coffee shop, I just wish the battery last a bit longer, 30 minutes it cost 5% of the battery already.

The last thing I want to mention here in my blog post, is that I really want to go home and get marriage. I want to have a family with kids and a stable life where I can take my kid to school and hug and kiss my lovely wife (although I’m not sure when I will meet my love one in my life, but I wish for that, to be in a relationship and can elevate my mood everyday). I’m kind of hard of myself on selecting partner, I don’t even have a choices, you know, I try to talk with girls but really none are available, and the one that actually available is not really matching at all. I just want a person who understand me. You know, like I always think that a wife is like the second mom, who really cares about you and understand you. But it’s not easy at all to find that level of matching. This is a long story to tell, I do think about starting a family a lot for at least a year now, I’m getting closes to 30s already. So it’s better to do something than nothing. Of course, putting career at first is important, but I don’t think a life is worthy if we only doing our jobs without generating new generation, it’s our duties, everyone should marry and raise kids.
