It’s definitely too sweet. It’s packed with sugars. A single bite of the donut makes me abandoning it right away. It’s surely just sugars and nothing else in it. It’s too sweet for my taste. It looks good on screen but when I decide to take a bite I immediately regret it. To be frank, nothing is healthy and makes you feel better. I mean the fast food and all kinds of food that we see here in the city. I mean the cookies are good so is the coffee. But I don’t like the donuts, the fries, and the burgers. I tried to like it by making the burger myself and also tried to eat fast food on more occasions but then I always went back to home cooking with beef, chicken, and rice. I like the gravy (especially the gravy from KFC) and combine it with hot rice, it makes me of the KFC rice I ate on a lot of occasions for my lunches when I was in Vietnam. I like the breakfast eggs from McDonald’s, it has good crunch hashbrowns too. Overall, I feel less interested in food when I’m here in Canada. It has been almost 6 months now, I mean I have been here officially the 5th month, and on the 16th of September, I will be officially breathing and living in this area for half of a year. What I like most about this country is that it’s obviously sunny summer with lots of sunshine, and the air is extremely fresh and clean. I love it, I love the wide street with quiet neighbors. The only thing I feel like I could feel better is having more connections. But am I the one who actually needs that and seeking some? Of course not, I have been a real introvert since I was in Vietnam. I admitted that I’m a boring person and do not really talk much in class. If you ask any of my classmates in any school I have been through, the fact that they will say I’m a person who is isolated and avoids socializing. I believe that my cousins, family, and colleagues think the same. I always try to avoid people. I try to figure out why, but not yet understand that, maybe the childhood abuse, video games, or early access to pornography makes me behave like this? Who knows, but one thing I do care about is to be able to make things better, not only for myself but for others. It’s obviously to do a good job at work and also stay healthy most of the time. If I had a chance to make things better within my comfort zone I would always do it, like at least I clean after I cook, and on some occasions, I do vaccum the area outside of my room.
What I’m trying to do better is to take part in a project that impacts as many people as possible. I’m not sure what a project I can attend but of course, the goal is not really, at least not only about the money. It’s about being a great engineer that builds products that last many lifetimes. At least that is what makes me feel meaningful about life: about making an impact. It’s like how Uncle Pham Nhat Vuong is doing right now, he’s doing the thing that never a single Vietnamese can do: initiate an auto industry in Vietnam. Regardless it’s successful or not, the business that he creates has been coming to a scale that I don’t ever think anyone can achieve. He did the business with billions of dollars of capital, and the product is actually really good, I don’t think electric cars will be popular that soon but sooner or later, it’s definitely replacing more and more gasoline cars. There are more things we are looking forward to in the future: automated work in harsh environments by using robots, plant-based proteins (like vegan beef, fish, and chicken), neural links with things like a seamless interaction between human brains and computers (via a device injected in our body), etc. At least I see that if everybody keeps realizing the value of technology and keeps investing in it, for all the scientists and engineers to do their work to make the world better, then we are going close to a brighter, more efficient, and more happy future. Of course, right now engineers and scientists are already well paid, they are doing the work that has the highest rewards among all fields, of course, there are more parts to take into place, like other people have to recognize the value of their product, trust them in order to develop it. You see, many products that not serving the benefit of people, are good products, but if it’s not what we need as a whole, then it certainly will be discarded. It’s like a digital camera or physical keyboard on a phone, who would use that anymore?
But there is a thought coming through my mind, there are certain things that are irreplaceable. For example, do you think online shopping could be replacing traditional shopping in shops and malls? Do you think instant coffee in packages can replace the coffee machine? I don’t think so, there are things like experiences and moods that people want. We are human, an animal in the end and there are things that cannot be discarded in life because it simply brings us joy. People still enjoy biking around despite having scooters, electric bikes, and cars, but those vehicles serve different purposes. Some people just enjoy to bike because it’s the exercise they want to do. Do you think that when the day comes magic drugs can keep our body fit and look good without having to go to the gym? I don’t think so, maybe there are still people who want to go to the gym for the experience they have when hanging out and pulling the actual weight themselves. So the question of whether we will have a future with billions of cars replaced by electric cars is quite vague. Nevertheless, I have a belief that whatever comes to our life and makes us feel good it will stay. If things improve and make us feel more efficient and convenient it’s definitely will be used and exist for a long time. It’s like how AI is serving us right now, it’s giving us the best content we can have on social media, Netflix, or YouTube. You’re definitely enjoying yourself with a single tiny device that fits in your pocket: your phone, is making you feel happy every day with all the contents that it’s providing you. I’m not sure what the future will look like for all of us, but I do think that we all want to have a happy life: a healthy body, good connection, safety in our home, warm clothes doing things we like, and doing meaningful works. I think most people are kind of struggle in one way or another regarding one of the above things: some people worry about lacking money and financial security, some people feel unhealthy because of obesity and sick, some people just feel betrayed in the relationship, have disputes and different in values, some people just feel meaningless in their works because it’s not the thing they want to do or feel contributed. This is why I think having a good knowledge and understanding of the world we are living in is so important. If I have a chance to be smarter, I will always try to learn more certificates, do more lab work, and study anything that I feel enjoying like to know more about finance, history, geography, and so on.
One last thing before I close off this blog post: I was thinking about getting a coffee machine for a week already. I think the reason is that I like to have some caffeine boost in the early morning. Also, I feel like I started enjoying drinking coffee more because it simply tastes good, especially if it’s combined with cream and syrup. Also, I see the K cup pods look pretty cute, I see it has a variety of packaging and colors, and I just want to try all of them. But you know what, I will not buy anything for at least a month, because I just want to make sure if I actually need it or not. I will probably drink coffee for a week continuously to see if I actually love coffee that much. It would be a waste if I purchased something and not using it for a long time. I mean the only thing I would use every day is probably sunscreen and my Macbook Pro.
