Diary #21 – Returning to Tennis game

The practice rally was fine, but the game was not good enough. I was missing the serve returns twice. But at the end of the day, I got the 40 minutes of Tennis practice, I felt the ball was flying very fast still but I could hit and return anyway. Today I was meeting with my new friend, anh Huy, he’s a nice guy and looks very young and talented and modest too. We didn’t have a chance to talk much since we focused on the game mostly and we didn’t have much time either, but I’m thankful to have a partner to play with since my level is very low, it’s hard to ask for someone to spend time practicing with me since I’m not a good player, the senior players don’t interest in practicing with me too since they might feel it’s a waste of time. I can spend 50 dollars per hour for coaching but honestly, back in Vietnam I already spent over a thousand dollars (like 25 million VND) for a course that last 3 months. Tennis is really hard, unlike pickleball or badminton. But it’s rewarding, once you know how to play it, I mean at least learn the basic moves like backhand, forehand, and serving, you are already good to go with the game, and you will be addicted to it. Both Tennis and Golf are somewhat like elite sports, I mean it require a lot of skill (which is equivalent to time and effort) and money to be good at it. So it’s a prestige to play such kind of sports. The good thing about these “elite” sports, is that they allow you to enjoy the natural so much, as long as you go outside and breathe the fresh air, then it’s already an enhancement of your life condition. It’s much more fun and makes people feel happier to stay outside. You can think of any sports: hiking, skiing, scuba diving, biking, tennis, golf, etc. Anything that makes you move and stay outdoors will definitely make you a happier person. And honestly, sometimes it’s not only about going outside, breathing air, and moving your body or staying active, but it’s also about connection with other people. For Tennis, it’s definitely the one, people within a Tennis club are all very friendly and nice and outgoing, they are willing to talk and have an open-minded (at least that is from my experience)

Anyway, for my personal situation, I plan to re-string my tennis racquet since the tension of the string is too low, I feel like I have more difficulty controlling the ball because of that. I mean it’s giving easy access to power, I don’t have to swing as hard to make the ball go to the other side of the court, but to hit the ball to the exact destination I want, it feels really difficult. I could think of it is because of my skill: like my footwork and the angle of the racquet are not correct enough. But I adjusted multiple times, and did my research online, and the string tension is matter. Therefore I’m thinking about this weekend I will visit a tennis store to re-string my racquet. I also need to get a haircut anyway, a haircut makes a person look nicer, not necessary to hook up with girls but it’s more like paying respect for myself and self-care. So I used to think about keeping my beard and my hair growing for eternity, but I shave all of them anyway since I realize that I feel much more comfortable keeping my hair groomed.

Speaking about my work right now, I feel like there are things to finish but it’s still in the right condition, the only thing I feel I could do better, is start learning new engineering certifications, I have been thinking about this for 2 years already and still postponed due to procrastination. I have to fix this somehow, I wish “God” would show me the way and give me the strength to avoid easy pleasure and procrastination. That’s a short summary of my days so far. Hope you guys have a good weekend and take care.
