Diary #18 – Passed the G2 Road Test

Now I am finally able to rent a car or purchase a car and get car insurance of my own. Why a car is so important, I might ask. It’s the only vehicle that can transport us from point A to point B efficiently. This means the car can bring us to a different place with speed and time effectively. It’s a freedom of movement. Of course, financing a car is not cheap. I don’t even think of getting a car immediately after passing the G2 road test. The reason? There are two primary reasons: purpose of use and cost. The cost is about maintenance, fuel, and insurance. My rough estimation keeping a car will cost me a minimum of 400 dollars monthly, for now, because insurance is so high for those who don’t have a driving history. But who knows? I might be able to ask for an insurance discount using driving experience proof that I got from the embassy? But that’s the story for the future. The primary reason for not getting a car is the purpose. Why do I need a car now if I don’t have to? I mean if I have to get somewhere daily, like going to work or school, or at least if I have a brother or sister that I need to take care of and visit them twice a week, or if I have a partner or a family member who needs to take a ride daily then probably I would purchase a car. You see, a car can be shared only if a closed relationship needs it. In my case, I don’t have to go out often because I work remotely, I can work from home. Also, I can purchase most of my stuff online, and even shopping or doing groceries is not my daily thing. Also, I don’t have a hobby of going out too often, I mostly stay at home and do things online. So why do I need a car? A car is certainly an expense, for anyone who doesn’t need it. If it’s serving a business and boosting my income and my happiness then I am certainly willing to pay for the car.

So why do I even bother to take the driving class and road tests? It’s because it’s a lifelong skill. The G2 expiry time is 5 years, and can you tell in these 5 years I will never use a car? Yes, I will certainly use it, but use here doesn’t mean I have to buy a car to use it, I can rent a car, or borrow someone, right? I mean, if I need to take a vacation, a road trip, do large groceries (like buying furniture), or move home, then yes, I will rent a car or a truck for that purpose. Rent a car or truck will cost less than a hundred dollars. Still much cheaper than paying a full insurance fee for the car.

Ok, so now you know my thought process regarding car purchasing and the reason why I take the G2 road test: it’s a must-have skill like swimming or language skills (speaking and writing). It’s for future use, not now, but in the future, whenever I need a car, the G2 driving license and driving skills will be required. If speaking about road tests, today I have to pay an extra 250 dollars for the instructor to borrow his car, and also for one-hour coaching, this is certainly expensive. But again, I must pass this so I need a car and 1 hour of coaching for sure. Besides that, the registration fee was exactly 53.75, so the total for the exam retake is 303.75. The cost of taking courses in driving school was exactly 869 and I had taken an extra private lesson from the instructor, and it cost 50. So the total for the driving course is 919. The fee for G1 exam registration and also for the first G2 road test registration (the one that I failed) was 159.75. So overall, the total fee for G1 and G2 tests including the driving courses is 303.75 + 919 + 159.75 = 1382.5. Happy?

Yes and no. No, because, I was supposed to be able to save 303.75, and this amount of money I can spend on other things, like a tennis racquet, right? Yes because, at least I got a G2 anyways. I mean I am willing to fail up to 5 times because I was planning my budget to 2K, if after the 5th time taking the road test I fail, I will certainly never take the road test again, at least this year. So, this is all planned. Thank you for reading my stuff, have a good day.
